This book contains the (almost) complete short stories of Guy de Maupassant in the chronological order of their original publication.
Here you will find the largest collection of Maupassant’s short stories available in English (277 short stories).
As you will notice, this book DOES NOT INCLUDE the 65 fake Maupassant stories... stories that weren't written by Maupassant but are always included in all the other so-called complete editions.
In order that you can be sure that Maupassant is the author of each and every story contained within these pages, we have included a direct link to the original French stories. You just have to click on the original titles, under the English titles, to be redirected to the French texts.

The Complete Short Stories Centaur Classics edition by Guy de Maupassant Centaur Classics Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Interesting as a collection, but somewhat boring after the first third of the book. I suppose life in WW11 France, and shortly afterward, didn't vary that much. Good if you want a picture of real life in Paris, resort areas, and some rural areas of France in that time frame.
This is an absolutely fabulous collection by an ebook publisher (Centaur Classics) that took great pains to provide only proven AUTHENTIC de Maupassant stories, a task necessitated by some 65+ spurious tales having been added to the canon over the years. As Professor Artine Artinian explained in his Introduction to a previous collection, "[I]n the first American edition of [de Maupassant's] works, in 1903, no fewer than sixty-five stories not written by him were somehow published under his name. Undetected at the time, the error was perpetuated by many subsequent publishers for nearly 50 years. It was only in 1949 that a painstaking American biographer...discovered the colossal error" (THE COMPLETE SHORT STORIES OF GUY DE MAUPASSANT. Doubleday/Hanover House, 1955, xi-xii). Sadly, with the advent of ebook publishing, many of those old collections containing counterfeit stories, now in the public domain, remain freely available for anyone to "publish," thus further perpetuating the error. This edition provides a link for each story, here translated into English, to its original French counterpart (unquestionably by de Maupassant), thereby demonstrating its authenticity.
I give Centaur Classics much well-deserved credit, FIRST for recognizing the problem, SECOND for doing something about it (rather than taking the easy way out and merely reprinting an easily-available but questionable public domain version), and THIRD for being willing to risk criticism from any unenlightened readers whose favorite (but BOGUS) stories aren't included. I only wish the book itself had an introduction explaining its soundness rather than only mentioning it in the blurb.
These simply-depicted tales are realistically-detailed observations and recreations of everyday life whether that be the life of soldiers, peasants, common folk, or fashionable city-dwellers; they are detached and objective, often ironic and thought-provoking, but always entertaining and enjoyable. This collection from Centaur Classics is definitely the one to get. Its content is authentic, it is handsomely formatted, and it has an active TOC -- and I would rate it HIGHER than 5-stars if I were permitted to do so.
NOTE Centaur also offers a companion volume of his novels.
Since reading "The Necklace " in 8th grade, I have been a fan of de Maupassant. Love his work!
Classic short stories, clearly standing the test of time. Certainly worth some time.
excellent
Haven't read de Maupassant since high school. Shouldn't have waited so long.
My favorite
